What a customer would cost
A lead cost $15.37. The plan assumes a $600 sale and $400 to make and deliver it. Change the assumptions.
- Ads to get one customer
- $76.85
- cost per lead ÷ share who buy
- Left after ads
- $123.15
- margin minus those ads
- Leads who must buy
- 7.7%
- to cover ads, per 100 leads
- Signup rate needed
- 2.1%
- this test measured 5.3%
These assumptions leave $123.15 per sale after ads, before other costs. Ask these leads to buy at the planned $600 price. Check that at least 7.7% of leads buy to cover ads before increasing spend.

notes & method
- The range and the bands. The 95% confidence range is 2.9% to 9.6%; a wide range means a small sample, not a weak idea. The box on the chart is the likely range: one standard error either side of 5.3%, about 3.7% to 7.0%, where the true rate sits roughly two times in three. Band edges are set during planning: kill below 1%, revise to 2%, hold to 5%, promising to 7.5%, build above that. The verdict also accounts for how much evidence the test has.
- Decision thresholds. Set before payment: stop line 2%, target 5%, build zone from 7.5%.
- The example plan. The interest target is 5%. The planned $0.82 cost per visit divided by that target gives a $16.40 cost-per-lead target, below the $40.00 break-even ceiling from the sale margin and assumed buyer rate. The example also assumes a 50% form-completion target. These are illustrative planning choices, not industry benchmarks.
- Further sampling. The illustration repeats the same daily spend, cost per visit and signup rate: 3 more days, 187 more visits and 10 more leads. Both ranges use the same 95% Wilson interval calculation. Actual results and the verdict may differ. Keep any extension within your approved spend cap.
- Calculation and exclusions. Customer cost is cost per email divided by the share who buy. Excludes overheads, taxes and the platform fee.
- Audience groups. Meta reports ad views, clicks and spend for each breakdown separately. Each breakdown adds up to the run’s totals, but the breakdowns do not combine into one profile. Click rate is clicks divided by ad views; cost per click is that group’s ad spend divided by its clicks. Email signups are not split by group. Groups with fewer than 20 visits are not ranked. With this few visits, differences between groups show a direction, not proof.
